Masked Crusaders Fight for Maura
Friday, June 17, 2005 Boston might not be Gotham City, but there were plenty of masked crusaders roaming the streets the night of June 17th. The Campaign to Elect Maura Hennigan hosted a fundraiser at the Midway Café in Jamaica Plain called “Masked Crusaders for Maura.” Guests wore masks in the spirit of the evening’s theme, which encouraged Hennigan supporters to champion their candidate without fear of retribution from current Mayor Thomas Menino. Approximately 80 crusaders came out for their candidate. Hennigan thanked them for their support, saying that under the Hennigan Administration, “People will walk unmasked in the city, because no one should fear their mayor!” Midway Café Owner Dave Balerno called for an end to the “politics of fear.” Local band, the Shills, entertained the crowd as a large screen projected the film, “Batman Forever” to get supporters in the superhero mood. Below are some images from the event. Click on a picture for a better look.
