The Globe went on to say "Hennigan has distinguished herself for fighting for issues of importance to women. She helped to bring day care to City Hall, a reliable pilot school to West Roxbury, and screening programs breast cancer to women citywide. Now she wants to shape the rational development on the waterfront, expand the city's stock of inexpensive housing, and coax the School Department away from its poorly performing middle schools and toward the more reliable K-8 model. Dorchester Reporter

"For At-Large Council - Hennigan Stands Out"

Five men and two women are running for four at-large seats on the Boston City Council on November 6th. Most have their strengths, but one in particular deserves the support of Dorchester voters.

Maura Hennigan serves on the city council right now as a delegate from West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. She is the only viable woman candidate in the at-large field, a seasoned councillor with an intimate understanding of the budget process and its nuances. That is something the city needs now more than ever.

Maura Hennigan comes from an estimable Jamaica Plain family that has served in public service for three generations-the Hennigan family name is a proud one in the City of Boston. The Councillor herself has been in public for more than two decades, serving as a district councillor from her neighborhood since 1983. Her campaign literature aptly describes her strengths -- knowledge, courage and vision. We applaud her decision to vacate her district seat and offer her candidacy citywide, and we are comfortable in the belief that she can continue to bring a high standard of representation to the broader constituency all across the city's neighborhoods.

Maura Hennigan has developed a solid, reputation as an independent voice on the council with a command of issues across the city's neighborhoods. She deserves election to the citywide council.

West Roxbury Bulletin

"Hennigan the Obvious Choice"

Hennigan, with 20 years of public service to her constituents in West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Roslindale has been representing the Parkway fairly and honestly in all that time. With political ties to no one, she has stood toe to toe with political heavyweights, most notably Mayor Tom Menino when she felt the rights of the citizens of this city were not being upheld, or that political patronage was unfairly tipping the scales against the underrepresented.

When all is said and done, Hennigan is the obvious choice for the Parkway. Her ties to the community and her 20 years of experience, not to mention the fact that she is a female candidate for a post largely represented by men garners her the support of this newspaper. Vote Hennigan on November 6.
