Former Boston City Councillor Maura Hennigan has announced
her Candidacy for the position of Suffolk County Clerk of Court (Criminal
Division) of the Superior Court. Former Clerk Magistrate John Nucci
who accepted a position with Suffolk University recently vacated this
elected position. " I am excited with this opportunity to continue
in public service," said Hennigan. " This administrative position
in the Superior Court Criminal Division will allow me the opportunity
to work within the Justice system to ensure that cases flow through
the court in an accurate and expeditious manner. Through the community
outreach division of the office, I will have the opportunity to work
with the public in a pre-emptive manner to educate the residents of
Suffolk County about our court system. Crime is a serious issue that
affects the lives of our citizens. Working within our schools, advocating
for additional resources to deal with rampart drug abuse, protecting
victims of domestic violence, keeping guns out of the hands of children,
as well as using the position to protect vulnerable constituencies,
are just some of the areas that a clerk magistrate can have a positive
influence in our communities."
In addition to Maura Hennigan's extensive experience as a 24 year member
of the Boston City Council where she chaired many council committees
such as the Ways and Means, Public Safety, Education, Housing, and Veterans,
to name a few. Hennigan is a former teacher in the Boston Public Schools,
where she taught at the Elementary, Middle and High School levels. Hennigan
is a founder of the Patrick Lyndon Pilot School, a high performing K-8
school in Boston. Maura is currently a Democratic State Committeewoman
and was first elected to that position in1980.
The Democratic Primary is September 19th. The final election is November
7th. A Suffolk County position includes the cities of Boston, Chelsea,
Revere and the town of Winthrop. If you would like further information
