Believe in Better Public Safety / Public Health..

We live in a big city with big city issues. Those who serve and protect us need to feel confident that they are properly supported through funding…that we supply them with the best-most up to date equipment possible and that we in city hall back them up with legislation that helps reinforce public safety for our citizens.

I believe Boston can be better!

Maura's Efforts in Public Safety...

  • Police Force : Has consistently worked to ensure our Police Force was adequately funded, properly equipped and ethnically diverse.

  • Stray Voltage : Has been leading the call for hearings and immediate solutions to resolve the dangerous issues of Stray voltage

  • Protecting Against Domestic Violence : Took a stand on Domestic Violence by being the major sponsor of a bill that would deny firearms permits to an individual that was convicted of or had a restraining order dealing with charges of domestic violence.

  • Notification of Sexual Offenders : Fought for stronger policies in regard to notification of sexual offenders living in neighborhoods and around school areas.

  • Properly Equipped Service Providers : Co-sponsored hearings to assess the number of defibrillators in use in the city to make sure our Public Service providers are well equipped in emergency situations

  • Prevention : Co-sponsored City Ordinance regarding Dog Bite Prevention

  • Safety Precautions : Ordered hearings to introduce monitoring safety devices for seniors or handicapped individuals.

Maura's Efforts in Public Health...

  • Attention to Toxic Mold : Co-sponsored hearings to raise the awareness of the serious health threats associated with toxic mold and what Boston can do to educate and prevent further contamination.

  • Flu Vaccine : Ordered hearings to solve procedural issues addressing the needs of homebound residents in regards to receiving flu vaccines.

  • Community Health Centers : Addressed the issues of community health centers and how they may better serve a continually growing culturally diverse population.

  • Mammography Van - As the first woman to serve as chair of the Ways and Means Committee, Maura secured funding for Boston’s first citywide mammography van, which brought badly-needed mammography services to women citywide.
